One of the major themes at the the recent Democratic debate in Ohio was the
subject of NAFTA. While both Hillary and Barack went to great lengths to
grovel for votes in Ohio by saying they are against NAFTA as it stands and
want to amend it, only Obama really has a record of being anti-NAFTA. But
even on that point he's soft, as he's willing to work within the constraints of
NAFTA, as he looks to modify or improve it. Hillary was for it while her
husband was President, but now is against it because she is running for
President. On the Republican side, John McCain has been pro NAFTA for as
long as anyone can remember.
Let me be clear on this point; I am the one true candidate among this bunch
who has always been, and always will be against NAFTA. While I subscribe to
a largely libertarian philosophy of "do what you want as long as it's consensual
and you're not hurting anybody", I do not believe this holds true in the case of
minors. In my opinion, as in the law, if you are not of age then you can not be
considered to consent to adult situations. While my Democratic opponents try
to nuance their positions on NAFTA, and John McCain comes out openly for
this unnatural organization, I stand proud and firm in my unmitigated
oppostion to NAFTA.
To hear any of them talk about "job creation" or the economic impact (positive
or negative) tied to NAFTA makes me sick to my stomach. This is a black and
white moral issue to me, not an economic issue, and it is something that we as
a civilized society should not tolerate... Oh wait, I'm being told that I'm
confusing NAFTA with NAMBLA....So never mind...
