I have spent the last couple weeks traveling around Asia, getting a feel for
Asian receptiveness to the Willard 2008 campaign. And I think it's safe to say
that, though I may be a bit biased, the Asians are ready for a Willard
presidency! Although my contact with the Indians, Chinese and Japanese was
limited to the tens of people, they really seem to like me so I'm sure their
larger populations will be equally receptive to me and my message. So good
news that.

But the real point of this blog entry is to reflect on the craziness and hoopla on
CNN International and BBC World. I'm talking of course about Client # 9, aka
ex-New York Governor Eliot Spitzer. I'll address the particulars of Mr Spitzer's
on a couple points, before I get into the deeper lesson we all can learn from his
self-created problems.

First, I want to stress that I in no way condone his behavior. He made a vow to
his wife and he broke that, and he violated the trust and faith of his family
and his constituents. However, he did at least choose to sin, err and stray with
an attractive woman. After the adulterous fiascoes of Bill Clinton and Prince
Charles, it's comforting and psychologically reassuring to get back to scandals
that better reflect our societal ideals of beauty and fitness.

To get to the larger point though, I think it's important that we as individuals,
as a society and as (in my case potential) legislators or legislation-influencers
avoid using our own weaknesses or deficiencies as guides to what should be
legal or illegal. Further, we should not try to rehabilitate ourselves through
legislation, or to hide our nature through hypocrisy. Doesn't it seem like the
staunchest anti-gay activists and legislators disproportionately end up being
gay, and that those proposing the strictest anti-prostitution legislation are the
ones who frequent prostitutes the most?

I try to open acknowledge my weaknesses, and to address them when possible
or not inconvenient or annoying to me. As such, I promise that, if I am elected
President, I will not promote or support any legislation that would limit the
consumption of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups or beer. I would also not lend my
name to legislation intended to restrict the amount of sports programming on
free or pay TV. Finally, I will not endorse any measures that would define
penalties for taking a sick day from work when you are not in fact sick. This
will hopefully save me, my adminstration and the American people the
ignominy of a similar scandal involving me, Brad Willard
