The national press has been all over the story of "Democratic Unity" these last
several days, and whether or not Hillary should end her candidacy for the sake
of the party (and whether or not Obama is saying she should end her
candidacy...but that's a different issue altogether).

Frankly, I think it's Hillary's decision to make. She seems to still have a
chance at getting the nomination, and if she believes in her campaign then she
should continue fighting for votes and moving her campaign forward. I think
it's also fair to judge her character based on her conduct over the next several
weeks, especially if it becomes clear that she can't win the nomination and she
is indeed risking the unity of her party for the sake of her pride and vanity.

But I like to think in bigger terms. Is the unity of the Democratic party, or the
Republican party, or any other party really the goal we should be pursuing?
Will the U.S. become a stronger nation because the major political parties stick
together? I think not. All that party unity accomplishes is creating a unified
front for sniping against other candidates. Does that serve the best interests of
the United States of America though?

I would like to raise this discussion to its pinnacle, i.e. American Unity". I
think that most of my competitors in this race, if they set their egos aside,
would recognize the fact that our country is bitterly divided. Democrats vote
for the Democrat candidate, and Republicans vote for the Republican
candidate, without bother to ask if that is really in their best interest. Well I
think it would be all Americans best interest to identify a candidate who can
unite our country, and that we all rally around that candidate.

In this spirit, I am formally asking John McCain, Hillary Clinton, Barack
Obama, Ralph Nader and any other fringe candidates out there to end their
candidacies, and unite behind the Willard 2008 campaign. John, Hillary,
Barack and Ralph, you all have a choice to make; support me and help our
nation heal, unite and step forward...or continue your ill-fated ego-driven
campaigns, and subject our nation to more chaos, strife and turmoil. If any or
all of the candidates I've called out here fail to unify behind my campaign, I
think that says a lot about their individual character (or lack thereof). I'm not
telling you how to practice democracy, but do you really want to cast your
precious vote for someone willing to forego national unity at a critical time
like this?
