Dear Prime Minister Reinfeldt,
I’m sure that you, like many other Swedes, are closely following the increasingly nasty (and
increasingly boring) presidential contest here in the U.S.A. between the Republicans and the
Democrats. And I’m sure you’ve noticed that none of these candidates bother to address issues
relevant to Sweden, or to even mention Sweden in their addresses or policies. And all you’ve been
able to do is sit back and play the part of the “brooding Swede”, and wait for the election to come
and go so you can get back to your day-to-day work.
Well, I’m here to tell you that you do have a viable alternative to support; ME! I won’t ignore you and
the wonderful nation of Sweden, because I am partially one of you. Not only am I part Swedish (my
great grandfather on my mother’s side was from outside Gothenburg), but I also happen to enjoy
the pop classics of ABBA and I remain a huge fan of both Ingemar Stenmark and Bjorn Borg.
Further, I promise you that, if you throw your support my way, I will ride to my inauguration in a Saab
or a Volvo (your choice), and I will serve Swedish meatballs at my inauguration gala.
